Frequently Asked Questions

Here are some common questions about therapy . If your question is not covered here, please don’t hesitate to reach out.

  • In your first session, we’ll talk about what brings you in, what you're hoping to get out of therapy, and begin to get to know each other. It’s also a chance for you to ask questions and see if it feels like a good fit. I might use this time to dive a bit more into your history but if there is anything you don’t feel ready to talk about, just let me know.

  • Most sessions are 50 minutes, with the exception of KAP dosing sessions. If you feel that this does not meet your needs, let me know and we can discuss further. However, insurance will generally only reimburse for 50 minute sessions.

  • Individual, Couple’s, and Family therapy are generally once a week. I am always happy to meet more frequently or add extra sessions if needed.

However, if you would like to meet less frequently this may depend on your specific goals, challenges, and needs. I am happy to discuss this further.

Regularly scheduled, weekly sessions are especially helpful in the beginning to facilitate our rapport building and introduction of some foundational skills. As you start to feel better, we can discuss reducing frequency to better meet your needs.

I also prefer to put recurring appointments on the calendar to make sure that a space is held for you. If you need to schedule or cancel a recurring appointment, just give me at least 24 hours notice.

  • The length of therapy varies from person to person. Some people benefit from short-term work, while others choose to engage in longer-term therapy. We’ll check in regularly to make sure therapy is working for you.

  • You can choose the format that feels most comfortable and convenient for you as I offer both in person and virtual sessions. However, I am commonly only in the office once a week.

We can also take a hybrid approach and schedule sessions in person or virtually based on your schedule and needs.

If you are interested in in-person sessions, I will be in the office on Thursdays. The office is centrally located in Manhattan at 280 Madison Avenue.

  • Yes—confidentiality is a key part of therapy. What you share stays between us, with a few legal exceptions (such as safety concerns or mandated reporting). I will only need to contact if I believe that you are a threat to your own or someone else’s safety. In these instances, we will also often work together to create a safety plan and my goal is not to blindside you.

  • That’s okay—many clients are new to therapy! We’ll guide you through the process, and you can go at your own pace. There's no “right” way to show up—we'll meet you where you are. Therapy can look as many different ways as there are individual clients. I am also happy to answer any questions you may have about starting therapy or the process as a whole.

  • If you would like to, we can schedule a consultation call to further discuss your needs and I can let you know my thoughts about how therapy may be able to benefit from you. You can also see more about the common challenges my clients face here.

  • I am purely an out of network practice. This means that I do not take any insurance directly. However, your insurance may reimburse all or part of session fees based on your out of network benefits. I encourage you to ask your insurance provider about your mental health out of network benefits. I can also help you better understand these if we choose to work together. See more about fees and insurance here.

  • A traditional individual therapy session is $200 for 50 minutes. This fee is higher for couples therapy, family therapy, and KAP dosing sessions. More on sessions fees an sliding scale options can be found here.

  • If you need to cancel or reschedule an appointment, please notify me as soon as possible. I require 24-hours notice for any cancellation or rescheduling requests. Anything made in less time than this is subject to your full session fee.

  • You are able to pay for sessions via credit card, debit card, or FSA/HSA card. If you have any outstanding balance, we will need to hold off on any future sessions until payment is made. Payment is due at time of service and scheduling sessions will require you to have a card on file.

  • Reach out to me here and feel free to let me know what type of services you are interested in, if you would like to have a consultation, and any questions that you might have.
